What Is PDR

Traditional Paintless Dent Removal (PDR) is the process whereby hail dents, door dings and minor dents are meticulously massaged out from the backside of your vehicle panels.

Trained technicians, using specialized tools, remove each dent with accurate precision until the entire vehicle is returned to its original appearance. The result is a clean repair done in a fraction of the time compared to a conventional body shop repair. Best of all, PDR allows you to maintain your vehicle’s original paint finish.

The technician uses specialized lighting or reflection to “read” the dent. A commonly used reflection source is a mini light which is powered by a 12v DC source. The cover of the light has a fogged pattern which allows the highlights and enhances the details of the dent to be seen.

A variety of tools are used to work the dent .Open panels are the easier areas to work with a rod or hand spoon. Access to braced areas is gained with hand tools, whale tails or shaved tools.

The latest innovation is GPDR or Glue Pull Dent Removal.
When access to the back side of the panel is not possible or too difficult to justify trim removal, the dent may be removed from the top of the panel.

This method involves a plastic tab being hot glued to the actual painted surface of the panel. Leverage is then applied with either a slide hammer or a mini puller to pull the dent up. There is a bit of a learning curve with this method and various techniques and specialized glues are needed to adjust for different climates and environments. There are some limitations based on the condition of the paint and the sharpness of the dent. We carry two specialized videos on GPDR to demonstrate the troubleshooting and tactics needed for simple to advanced dents.

Here is an example of a repair made with our glue pulling techniques for this complex crease.

The same principles used in this repair are covered in our Advanced Glue Pulling Course.
